PURPOSE: To recognize outstanding achievements in television by conferring annual awards of merit in the New York Chapter's designated award region. The presentation of these awards is intended to be an incentive for the continued pursuit of excellence for those working in the television industry and to focus public attention on outstanding cultural, educational, technological, entertainment, news and informational achievements in television. ELIGIBILITY: Entries must have been produced for the New York Chapter's designated awards area and must have had their first broadcast or cablecast in that awards area during the eligibility period. Entries must not have been available for viewing by more than 50% of the U.S. television homes during the eligibility year. The National Student Television Award for Excellence The National Student Television Awards program (NSTV) was presented by the Foundation of our National office (the NATAS - National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences). During its five year run NSTV reached over 6,000 high school students throughout the US. Each of the 19 NATAS Chapters had regional honorees. NSTV celebrated its last season during the 2007-2008 school year. Unfortunately, the NATAS is no longer able to continue the program due to insufficient funding. The New York Chapter of NATAS will try to explore ways to develop a student program for local area high schools.
